There’s a thin layer of mill-scale on the steel when you buy it so you should always grind all the weld areas before actually welding. It will make a monumental difference! Also invest in a good welding hood. Lincoln 4C hoods are 🔥

the one person who isnt even remotley a welder called it,,, you didnt clean the metal either... top plate covered in oils from manufacturer in order to prevent rusting. that will prevent your welds form penetrating the top plate.

The first couple times you actually do some decently long welding times of course you will feel retinal sunburn, happens to every welder the first time when learning, just part of the process. For the next day or two your eyes will probably feel like they have sand in them so just find some good eye drops and wear sunglasses at all times till it stops. Might be a good idea if your eyes are super sensitive to get a pair of welding goggles to wear underneath of a welding helmet. That way you can set the dimmer super low for when you start so you can line up your starting beads better.

Use no chlorine brake clean while welding!

Just a little tip for when you are welding thicker metal than what yourt welder is capable of doing: pre-heat your pieces with a torch. You'll get proper penetration and much stronger welds. Anyways, your design is not too critical to matter that much, but I wouldn't trust an engine's worth of weight on it. Keep it up!

Second tip when you start a weld you got a build up the heat in the puddle you got to push the heat around to where you want it

Always clean your material the cleaner it is easier it welds the better it looks the longer it'll last clean your material grind it down mill scale it's not good to weld on

Turn the heat up and the speed slightly down.

Once you get your legs square or anything square brace it up with another piece of metal before welding so when you weld it it says square and doesn’t pull out of square

U should always clean ur metal no matter what kind of wire ur using. It has coating on it to protect it

Not bad but jordan has the rong Concept you’re supposed to weave it back-and-forth because you’re sewing it get it hot leave it back-and-forth that’s the strongest way to get the metals to stick and Chris if you stack them on top of each other that makes it even stronger

Hey you won't learn unless you try. Watching this made me want to be there to show you how to run a bead though lol definitely get more practice in before you buy a tig! Grab a piece of sheet metal practice different welds than practice welding 2 pieces together you will figure it out pretty quick.

You got to learn somehow, that's a perfect project for that. And stacking welds is a normal thing to do in industry. You don't fill those 1 inch deep grooves with one pass. And they actually taught that in school. So it's perfectly fine.
